Some of NYC Finest. . .
Some of NYC’s Finest Bands hit the Bowery Ballroom Saturday!
Saturday night it is the Dirty Pearls, Ten Ton Mojo, Black Satellite and Bobby Mahoney and the Seventh Son at the Bowery Ballroom. Some of the best and loudest acts in the city today at one of its finest venues.
The Dirty Pearls, who claim Rivington Street in the Lower East Side as their home, have been at this for awhile. and this Saturday they kick off summer 2016. Ahead of them they have shows over in LA and in August over in the new Coney Island Stadium. With songs such as New York City is a Drug and You Got Me Where You Want Me they are straight-ahead NYC rockers. And this show should entail a mix of that last album, Whether You Like It Or Not and some tunes that they are working on for a new album. The Pearls can rock. And with the likes of DMC and even a horn section joining them on stage one night to do a version of Walk This Way, you just do not know what they might pull out at a show.
And then you got Ten Ton Mojo. They have basically taken a tried and true formula of blues and rock, maybe a shot of some Southern Comfort, and made it their own-of course with a solid dose of NYC attitude. First you have Andy Papp’s at times soulful vocals, the tasty guitar licks of Scott and Gabe, all of which can get pretty heavy at moments. All driven by a solid rhythm section featuring Paul Kane on drums and Chris Laubis on bass. I always liked the last song on their self titled album Ten Ton Mojo, which would be “Southside of Heaven”. It just confirms what rock n’ roll is all about, experiencing a little bit of heaven right here, right now, and they do that routinely on stage.
The other two acts, Black Satellite and Bobby Mahoney and the Seventh Son I am sure will hold up their part of the bargain and kick the night into gear properly. Black satellite is an act I have been wanting to see for awhile. So I do hope I finally do make it there and see them this Saturday.
