More than a Weekend at Bernie’s
This past week was more than just a Weekend at Bernie’s. It was two years this Wednesday that we lost Bernie Torme to viral pneumonia. Wednesday, March 17, Saint Patrick’s Day. The next day, March 18th is in fact Bernie’s birthday. He would have been 69.
Those dates in themselves are significant but what we saw this week was an outpouring of music, stories, videos, and photos. We saw this week, in recent weeks, pictures we had never seen, discovered music we did not know existed. Even fellow artists celebrating him and his music through their own music.
We heard stories of how he would simply engage fans and friends, his fellow musicians. We routinely hear such things, but there was just more of this week.
All of which illustrating and confirming that the man and his music are missed. It is not the same without him.
For those who are not familiar with Bernie Torme, I encourage you to go to his site, www.bernietormeofficial.com, maintained by his family today. Checkout Youtube, which has a host of videos ranging from vintage videos of him in Gillan, to his own musical works, to a collection of instructional videos he offers up. Listen to his music and see the variety of projects he was involved with.
To share with and engage fellow fans, I encourage you check out his Facebook group, Bernie Torme Past Present & Future, which is very active.
All of which brings us to our largely weekly post, Kyoko’ Cooley’s “Weekend at Bernie’s”
Weekend with Bernie (on FB) #96 Birthday week special Bernie Torme Jamming with Clive Burr & Marc Russell Tune is from Bernie’s Pledge page. Have a wonderful weekend everyone!!
